API Oil & Gas Well Surface Test Tree / Flowhead For Surface Well Testing
The Flowhead is the Surface test tree, which is the primary device for controlling the well and allowing the introduction of wireline. The surface test tree is located on the top of the well and mainly used for controlling the surface pressure and fluid & gas movement during drill stem testing service. The basic designed Flowhead includes four valves-Master,Swab,Kill and flowline(Hydraulic actuator). The assembly also has swivel to allow pipe rotation for manipulating downhole tools(DST String) without turning the test head.
The standard valve configuration of the flowhead is four valves arranged in a cross shape. The bottom valve is a manual valve and is commonly known as the Master Valve and is the valve normally used to isolate the well bore from the surface process facilities. The top valve, which is also a manual valve, is known as the Swab valve and is used to allow the introduction of wireline tool strings into the well-bore. The two side valves are called the Flow-wing valve and the Kill-wing valve. The Flow-wing valve is normally a hydraulically actuated fail-safe close valve, which is activated by means of a control panel, or in an emergency situation, remotely by the ESD system. The kill-wing valve is normally a manual valve and is used to allow the introduction of kill fluids to the well. It is also used during pressure testing to allow the cement unit to pressure up the surface test equipment, across the flowhead.
